5 Super foods to fight the signs of aging
Everyone is scared of getting older, and anyone who says differently is lying to you, and themselves. Wrinkles, hair loss, brittle bones…seriously, who is looking forward to that? Thankfully, there are things we can do to combat the signs of aging. These 5 super foods will help you stave off looking your age, naturally.
Avocados
This fruit, yes fruit because it has a seed, seems to turn up on a lot of lists. Avocados are a good source of the “Master Antioxidant” glutathione, a natural anti-aging compound. Avocados are also a source of L-cysteine, which helps protect your body from the harmful effects of pollution, chemicals, radiation, alcohol, and smoke. It also encourages healthy hair and nail growth. Nothing says “youthful” like a full head of luxurious hair.
Apricots
I am not a big fan of this fruit, maybe because I’ve only every tried the dehydrated version of it. But regardless of the taste, eat up. Research has shown that apricots have the highest levels and widest variety of carotenoids of any food. What are carotenoids? They’re antioxidants that help prevent heart disease, reduce “bad cholesterol” levels, and protect against cancer.
Nuts
Toned biceps equal an awesome body, which puts you in the “Hot Mom” category by default, and when you’re hot no one cares how old you are because “hotness” surpasses the pettiness of “age.” Stocking up on nuts will help increase muscle tone. Many nuts and seeds are rich sources of vitamin E, lignants and omega-3 fatty acids, which protect you from the ravages of aging.
Apples
The saying is true in this case. “An apple a day keeps the plastic surgeon away.” Gobbling these down, two or three at a time will keep you young and healthy for years. Apples have also been linked to keeping fat from forming in the abdominal section.
Berries
Berry season is in full swing, which is great because they too are bursting with antioxidants and flavonoids. These flavonoids are more potent than vitamins C and E, and they also help to reduce inflammation – more effectively even than aspirin! Say goodbye to the bags under your eyes.

3 Tips for great lips
A splash of color can brighten up any outfit, especially if that color is on your lips. Thankfully, getting your best looking lips is as easy as 1, 2, 3…
1. Avoid frosted lipsticks, at all costs. They make you look dated and scream, “Nursing Home.”
2. Keep your lips moisturized. For starters it avoids dry looking cracked lips and keeps your lipstick from feathering.
3. Invest in a lip brush. It will give your mouth a perfect professional finish every time.
3 Wedge heel looks every girl needs
The “trendy” wedge
Nothing is trendier than the color white. Why? Well, it haughtily says, “I’m chic and classy in an understated way, and yet my total absence of color makes me look so fresh that you can’t take your eyes off of me.” Add some hardware (buckles, studs, grommets, etc.) and you have a trendy spring/summer wedge. This is the shoe you pull out of your closet to keep your spring or summer white look in tact.
All the facts you need to know about swine flu
By now we’ve all heard about the new possible pandemic we should all be fearful of; swine flu (trembles in terror every time the word is said). Now, I’m no doctor, but am I the only one who thinks people are taking this a little too seriously? Especially considering that bird flu was supposed to be the pandemic that wiped out the human race. I mean, really! In an effort to down play this over hyped illness, I headed to Web MD to get the facts for you.
What is swine flu?
Like people, pigs can get influenza (flu), but swine flu viruses aren’t the same as human flu viruses. Swine flu doesn’t often infect people, and the rare human cases that have occurred in the past have mainly affected people who had direct contact with pigs. But the current swine flu outbreak is different. It’s caused by a new swine flu virus that has spread from person to person — and it’s happening among people who haven’t had any contact with pigs.
What are swine flu symptoms?
Symptoms of swine flu are like regular flu symptoms and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. Those symptoms can also be caused by many other conditions, and that means that you and your doctor can’t know, just based on your symptoms, if you’ve got swine flu. It takes a lab test to tell whether it’s swine flu or some other condition.
How is swine flu treated?
The new swine flu virus is sensitive to the antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza. The CDC recommends those drugs to prevent or treat swine flu; the drugs are most effective when taken within 48 hours of the start of flu symptoms. But not everyone needs those drugs; many of the first people in the U.S. with lab-confirmed swine flu recovered without treatment. The Department of Homeland Security has released 25% of its stockpile of Tamiflu and Relenza to states. Health officials have asked people not to hoard Tamiflu or Relenza.
Is there a vaccine against the new swine flu virus?
No. But the CDC and the World Health Organization are already taking the first steps toward making such a vaccine. That’s a lengthy process — it takes months.
I had a flu vaccine this season. Am I protected against swine flu?
No. This season’s flu vaccine wasn’t made with the new swine flu virus in mind; no one saw this virus coming ahead of time.
If you were vaccinated against flu last fall or winter, that vaccination will go a long way toward protecting you against certain human flu virus strains. But the new swine flu virus is a whole other problem.
How can I prevent swine flu infection?
The CDC recommends taking these steps:
* Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Or use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
* Avoid close contact with sick people.
* Avoid touching your mouth, nose, or eyes.

It’s A God Purposed Week

Good Morning Everybody!
I don’t understand why, but often after prayer I find myself in pictures and memories of my past. This morning I remembered the 250 piece puzzle. Dad and Ma used to buy us toys all year and the day she handed us that box, I knew we would be hovering over that table for hours. My sister and I went at it – like studying a hard game of chess. Time meant nothing – serious, determined and quiet! As hard as I tried, Maloney kept saying out “It won’t go there!” I soon found out that some of the pieces looked like they would fit, some were colored like they would fit and, in frustration, I wanted to make some fit; however, each individual piece absolutely had to fit somewhere specific if we wanted to eventually enjoy this wonderful, colorful, picture on that cardboard box.
If we believe what we read (in His Word) and believe God
is who He says He is,…if we are not deceived and just
dreaming about this whole spiritual thing, but know that The
Creator is alive and watching and attending to the ultimate
plan of this big old world, then today is not “just a
day” and this week is not “just another week”, but a
slot of purpose we are living in. Like a puzzle piece
fitting in its proper place. Positioned like me and Mal, His
eye too is hovering over us today, serious, determined, and
often quiet! Be thankful that you are shaped like you’re
shaped and being maneuvered around by His hand to be
positions ONLY “right there”. It’s encouraging to me
and I pray for you too, to know that eventually the final
picture will appear after His hand is done placing us where
we should be.
Jeremiah 29:11 (King James Version) 11For I know the
thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts
of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end
We’ve prayed for you.

Colgate Wisp lets you brush anywhere, anytime

Earlier this week I was watching TV and saw a commercial for the best invention ever! Colgate has taken it upon themselves to invent something that’s long past due, the Colgate Wisp. What’s so great about this toothbrush? It’s a teeny tiny disposable brush that fits in your purse, so you can take it everywhere.
The Wisp boasts of being no bigger than a car key. And even more impressive, is that you don’t need water to use it. One end is designated as a toothpick to remove any food particles; the other end is a brush with a bead in the middle that releases a burst of minty freshness while you brush. No need to worry about spitting, the minty liquid is perfectly safe to swallow. The Colgate Wisp is sold in packs of four. What’s not to love?!
Finally, I can go out to dinner, order the most garlicky thing on the menu and not have to worry about offending my date for the rest of the night. Thank you, Colgate. You just helped me move one step closer to marriage.

Brown fat weight loss fad
Last week, I opened my email to find a gem of an article sitting in my inbox. Forwarded to me from one the producers of The Doctors, and courtesy of WebMD, I had to see what all the buzz was about concerning “brown fat,” mostly because I had no clue there was such a thing.
If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably just hearing about this new weight loss fad, too. According to the article, Can Brown Fat Make You Thin?, author Daniel J. DeNoon says it can. In the article he highlights the advantages of activating brown fat.
By activating the brown fat in your body, you could lose 9 pounds or more of bad white fat every year — without having to eat less or exercise more.
I know, what you’re thinking…What the heck is brown fat?! Apparently, brown fat was once thought to only be found in babies. It is the fat that all babies have and assumed that its purpose is to keep the body warm. Scientists thought that as we became older and more muscular that we lost brown fat. However, now scientists believe that we do not lose all our brown fat but rather it becomes dormant.
So, what does any of this have to do with you losing weight? Everything! Brown fat is activated when we become cold, and once that happens brown fat burns white fat as fuel. So, essentially your body uses good fat to burn bad fat. Upon studying the correlation of brown fat to white fat and muscle, scientists found
- Obese people have less brown fat than lean people do.
- Men have less brown fat than women do.
- Older people have less brown fat than younger people do.
- People with high blood sugar have less brown fat than people with normal blood sugar.
What does this mean for people like you and I? Well, it definitely makes getting hypothermia on purpose seem appealing, but besides that it’s a breakthrough in better understanding how our bodies work and what natural advantages God installed in us for weight loss and to maintain a healthy body.

10 Hair color tips

Whether you’re going blonde, red, or brunette nothing is worse than watching your once vibrant hair color fade into a dull lifeless version of it’s former self. Well, now you don’t have to. With these 10 hair color tips, courtesy of Marie Claire, your red can stay radiant, your brown can be brilliant, and your blond will look golden well past your hues projected expiration date.
10. THOU SHALT play THE COLOR FIELD
“Hair color is like an accessory,” says Marcy Cona, Clairol’s color director. “Play with shades lighter, darker, or redder than you usually choose. You might make a pleasant discovery.” For real commitment-phobes, try a tinted gloss or washout color-enhancing foam.
9. THOU SHALT CODDLE THY curls
Coloring curly hair is a delicate business, says Ouidad, of Manhattan’s Ouidad Salon. Because it’s naturally dry and porous, it absorbs color faster and is more susceptible to damage than straight strands. Ouidad says to dilute the dye by replacing a quarter of the activator with distilled water. Then proceed as usual.
8. THOU SHALT age GRACEFULLY
“To cover grays, choose an allover shade that falls between your new silver strands and the color you had as a child,” says Slattery. “This softens your face and camouflages regrowth.”
7. THOU SHALT NOT trash THY TRESSES
“The more you baby your hair, the better it maintains new color,” says Slattery. So choose shampoos formulated for color-treated tresses and deep-condition at least once a week.
6. THOU SHALT touch up WITH CAUTION
“Mismatched roots and ends are a dead giveaway that you dye your own hair,” says Backe. “This happens when dye dribbles down from the roots and oversaturates already-colored ends.” Better to get a friend — or a three-way mirror — to help you confine dye to the regrowth area. Need to refresh the rest of your hair too? Wait until the last five minutes of the process, then run color down the shaft.

5 Jeans for every body
I remember when buying a pair of jeans was fun, mostly because they only came in a handful of styles. Nowadays, it’s a chore I avoid like the plague. Walk into any store and you are overwhelmed by the number of cuts. But have no fear. I have braved this beast and come up with the best jeans for everybody.
Trouser
Wearing jeans to work has always been a dream of mine. Thanks to the new Denim Trouser, that dream has become a reality. In most cases, this jean comes in a wide leg or flared cut, which makes them perfect for every body type. What makes the look work appropriate is that it offers a tailored look. The waist doesn’t sit too low and skims your thighs instead of hugging them. Grab these jeans with a cuffed hem or beautiful button detail.
Wide Leg
I own multiple pairs of this jean. They are comfy and great when you have two hours to look like you lost 5 lbs. The wide leg jean always makes me feel like an Amazonian woman. They make you look long and lean. These jeans should always be paired with a heel and are most flattering on woman of average height or taller.
Skinny
Curvy woman beware. This type of jean is called skinny for a reason. While you don’t have to be stick thin to wear these, remember that these jeans are practically painted on once you get into them, so proceed with caution.
Boot Cut
This jean looks great on every shape and is a good way to be more casual but still seem polished. Throw them on with just about anything with any type of shoe and you’ll be comfy and cute.
Flared
If the Boot Cut jean and the Wide Leg jean had a baby this is what it would look like. This jean tends to fit a little tighter through the thigh to accentuate its bell-ish bottom, which gives a super slimming effect on fuller figures.
