Curves Ahead: Kate Winslet
August 14, 2011 by Paulette

That’s right, drink it all in…see those curves? That tummy pooch, those hips? They’re called curves and the majority of woman have them. We love Kate’s curves, well us and most British women. After all, Kate Winslet’s been voted to have the body that most gals across the pond want. And it’s no wonder. While Hollywood keeps trying to portray stick-thin twigs as the epitome of femininity, in reality, I don’t think it’s any woman’s dream to have the body of a 12 year old boy.

So stop it, Hollywood. Stop telling us that curves are nasty and then creating “sex symbols” out of woman who are made from plastic. Yes, every woman is made differently and more importantly in the image of God. So see the value in that and embrace it. We say, “Work it like Ms. Winslet!” Show your curves some love with garments that accentuate what you’ve got. Bandage dresses, ruching, asymmetrical draping, belted waistlines…they’re all great ways to dress up your temple.
Waves & Braids: Coverings’ Favorite Summer Hairstyles
Summer is just around the corner, and the key to great summer hair is texture. Create fun-in-the-sun coifs with beachy waves and braids. Not sure how to get the look? Our guide of warm-weather hairstyles will keep you in-vogue as you soak up some rays.

The Messy Side Braid (or Fishtail)
Why do we love this look? Because it’s a slightly messy braid that falls to the side. That means your just 5 minutes away from a chic, red-carpet look. It’s perfect for a day at the beach or a night out with your beau. And because the “messiness” is what makes it charming, there are no superior braiding skills required. Simply, give yourself a deep side-part (lining your part with the natural arch in your eyebrow is a good way to go). Sweep your hair to one side and start braidin’. Be sure not to pull your hair to tight. You want it loose and a little voluminous. Secure the end with a rubberband and you’re good to go.

The Front Braid with Beach Waves
If the messy side braid only takes 5 minutes, then this look with a partial front braid only takes about 2 1/2. It’s a quick hairdo that works at the beach or a summer church picnic. Give yourself a deep side-part and section off the front of your hair. Do a partial braid across the front hairline, and secure the braid with a bobby-pin. To get perfect beach waves, loosely twist your tresses around a 1″ barrel curling iron or throw your hair into some hot rollers for a few minutes. It’s all about looking natural. Then, just finger comb the waves so they separate and look seaside fresh.

The Milkmaid Braid
This Swiss Miss look has us going cray cray and our Editor-in-Chief is itching to rock the look herself. While the milkmaid braid takes a little more time to create, it’s a little bit old-school Swede and a little bit 70s beatnik with a modern update. Start with a modestly off-center part. Braid your hair loosely. Pull each braid across the crown and secure on the opposite side. Pull out some face framing fringe and your ready for a day at the beach or a night of clog dancing.

High Shine Holiday
The holiday season is in full swing and nothing says, “celebrate” like an outfit with sparkle. But, it’s a fine line between looking like a perfectly styled holiday hostess and looking like a hot holiday mess. Well, that’s what I’m here for. Follow these simple tips and you’re guaranteed to pull off an outfit that truly shines.
1. A little sparkle goes a long way.
Don’t loose yourself in a sea of glitter, spangles or sequins. Pick one piece that sparkles and let it be the centerpiece of your outfit.
2. Don’t overdo it on accessories.
Actually, this is just a good rule to follow in general. Besides a purse and the right pair of shoes, you only need to add a pair of earrings and a ring, OR earrings and a cuff/bangles. You do not need all three and I can almost guarantee that you won’t need a necklace. Especially if your shimmery piece is on top.
3. Do it big, or don’t do it at all.
The key to pulling off a glam holiday look is to embrace it. Do a smoldery smoky eye or a bold bright lip. Try a messy side swept chignon or big tousled hair. Maybe even add some fake lashes to your look. If you stop half way, you’ll end up with a look that falls flat.

Top Five Beauty Tips That Really Work
So, we are in a recession, right? Well, here are a few tips to polish off your beauty regime. Really. I have actually used most these tips and they really do work. These tips not only work but the are very affordable and you may just incorporate them as get get ready for each day.

First, Baking Soda has small granules that can help smooth out the rough spots when taking a bath. (Do not use the one that has been sitting in the fridge for a couple of months!) This product is much cheaper than some bath salts.

Second, give your favorite body lotion an boost by adding olive oil or baby oil. It even helps the scent last longer.

Third, got a surprise pimple? You can dry it out by using a simple toothpaste (not the gel, paste works better) before going to bed at night and you may not go back to those higher priced acne creams. I am telling you, this really works!

Forth, try petroleum jelly on your cracked heels with a soft pair of socks before going to bed and like magic, the dryness is virtually gone in the morning.

Lastly, fabric softener has come a long way now. I like to keep the sheet I used and place it in my drawer to make the smell of the lavendar last a little longer.

Do Not Forget To Protect Your Eyes

Sunglasses are essential to the wardrobe soon as we move into the warmer weather. The best way to protect your eyes is with Ultra Violet sunshades. Incidentally, I just found out there are UV-absorbing contact lenses are now available, however, they still do not protuding the eyelids. Here is a list of tips from SHINE by Yahoo! for purchasing sunglasses:
1. Check for the OSHA label with 99 or 100 percent UV protection.
2. Look for sunglasses that are close-fitting. These will prevent UV rays from filtering in.
3. Look for larger lenses or wrap-around sunglasses to prevent light from entering in.
4. Don’t be misguided by price — higher priced sunglasses usually reflect fashion or durability, not UV protection.
5. Dark-colored sunglasses don’t necessarily provide better protection. A clear chemical coating applied to the lens is responsible for UV protection, not the lens color.
6. UV-absorbing contact lenses should not be used as substitutes for sunglasses.
Sunglasses are a timeless peice that can be own throughout each of the seasons. Please get in the habit of wearing the sunglasses because there are no replacements.
Financial Freedom Part I

When I was a little girl my mother showed me how to give, save, and spend money. It was a special moment for me to go up to the altar and give God part of the money I earned as a child. As an adult I have realized the importance of it all. This is God’s money and I merely inherited it as His child.
The Parable of Talents: Matt 25:16 and 21 says “The man who received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more talents…”His master replied, well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things…”. As you invest your money, it is primarily important to tithe and give offerings to the church. The Bible provides us with God’s blueprint to financial stability and it is in our best interest to follow His instruction.
God Provides Details: Ephesians 5:1 and 2 discusses the art of being imitators of God, as his children and live a life of love just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. It does not sound as if God’s children were meant to be poor but spiritually prosperous.
Proverbs 21:20 says “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.” This means that we should give to God our first or best in all areas of our life. As we work, spend our money, or save. The instructions are essential to being a prosperous member to the body of Christ. There is so much work to be done! Each of us has a crucial part to play.

Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique Even Better Dark spot Corrector is creating a huge stir because it actually works! I have seen some blogs where women have tested the product and now rave about it. Yes, it comes highly recommended by women who have experienced either acne or dark spots they wanted to get rid of. The skin tone corrector is more powerful than its original because it also minimizes and completely eradicates spots or blemishes in twelve weeks.
The consensus is that you have to use the skin corrector at least twice a day in order to reap the true benefits. What’s even better about Even Better Skin Corrector is that the tiny bottle you buy lasts up to six months. How is that for a bargain?
I will pick up a bottle this weekend to prove the blogs wrong. I have a ton freckles that I inherited from my father that I would like to banquish from my face forever. I am on a quest to see if this skin corrector really works, too.
