Happy Friday, ladies!
And to make it even happier, I just had to share my new beauty bag must have. While I’m a MAC girl to the core when it comes to my eyes, the rest of my face is LOVING the new Sally Hansen Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy line.

The name Carmindy sound familiar? Well, it should. She’s only the effervescent faced makeup artist for TLC’s What Not To Wear. I’ve been a fan of the show for years and am constantly in awe of how dewy, sun-kissed, and flawless Carmindy’s skin always looks. I have been using her line of Natural Beauty products for almost 2 months, and I have to say I’ve never had such flawless coverage or so many compliments on my makeup.

I leave my house at 7:30 a.m. to head to work and when I get home at 6:45 p.m. my face looks exactly the same. The primer is amazing. It sets everything perfectly. My shadow doesn’t crease, my liner doesn’t run, my skin looks perfectly even and dewy and never oily. I am seriously in love. While her Airbrush Spray Makeup only comes in a handful of shades. I have been able to wear the same color and get a perfect color match no matter how many shades my skin has darkened over the summer. As a matter of fact, the coverage is so great that I can actually skip wearing the Fast Fix Concealer. And, the Forever Stay Moisture Gloss leaves my lips feeling, well…moisturized. I don’t have to worry about feathering and it’s perfect for layering with my favorite lipstick if I want a richer hue.

I’m so excited about this line of makeup and think you ladies will instantly fall in love with it. Even if you just mix and match pieces with your tried and trusted makeup staples, this Carmindy inspired line plays well with others and well give you beautiful skin with every application.

These are a few of my favorite things…

Ok, well maybe not exactly those things. We’re more into shoes that fuse fashion and function, stress induced breakout stoppers, and figure flattering wardrobe pieces; those are a few of our favorite things! We dug through our closets and makeup bags to give you the gift of must-have essentials to keep yourself beautiful and stylish from this year and into the next. With a little something for everyone, the Coverings Crew wishes you style and grace.

Born shoes and boots 300x257 Coverings’ Favorite ThingsBorn Shoes

We love the handcrafted comfortableness that is Born Shoes.  I purchased my first pair of Born biker boots for a little over $100 several years ago. I get complements every time I wear them, which is almost daily in the fall and winter seasons. I could walk a mile in those shoes…actually, I literally have. At a price point that truly makes them worth the investment, these shoes buck the cliche that you have to suffer for fashion!.

We had our first gel manicure this year and we absolutely LOVED it! Not only did my nails grow ridiculously long, my mani didn’t crack or chip for 2 weeks. Sure the new gel manicure costs a little extra, but believe me it’s totally worth it. My nail salon actually reassured me that if for any reason my mani didn’t last I could come back and they would fix it for free. While it does take about an hour to apply this revolutionary new technique, you leave the salon with nails that are completely dry and unbreakable. Many of us celebrated our mothers this past Sunday by showing her with gifts and dinner.  Mom was a significant key to teaching us life skills and pinchon for picking out great beauty products. My mother played a significant part in my spiritual walk with God, learning to cook, recite a poem in class, and my love with Jergens Original Body Lotion.  I think the scent reminds me of her and that is the main reason I like it so much.

Totalbeauty.com took a in-office survey of women who got hooked on beauty products.  Here is what they said:

Neutrogena Rainbath Shower & Bath Gel, $23.99

“This was a staple in our showers growing up — likely because it could be purchased at Costco (called Price Club back then) in a 40 oz. bottle. But this remains one of the best shower gels I’ve ever used (though I must admit I am more of a bar soap fan). It leaves skin feeling super clean, but never totally dried out. And it has a classic, fresh scent that isn’t too fruity or floral — definitely guy friendly.”

Lancome Definicils, $24.50

“My mom introduced me to Lancome Definicils, still my all-time favorite mascara and no. 1 beauty obsession.”

– Sarah Carrillo, Senior Associate Editor

Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, $24

“When I was 12, my mom took me to the Clinique counter and got me started on the 3-step system. I used it till I was in college … and actually still sometimes use Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion on my face.”

– Susan Yara, Associate Editor

Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion SPF 55, $39

“According to my mom, all my bad traits were from my dad’s side of the family: acne, bad eyes, bunions, etc. My mom’s biggest complaint though was my skin. She said I had the skin of a 40-year-old at the age of 16, thanks mom! So she introduced me to Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion. I still use it every day and when I ran out of it while traveling in Italy I spent a ton of Euros to replenish my stash.”

Now it is your turn to send us your comments. What product did your mom or mom-like role model get you hooked on? Do you have a beauty secret to share?

Could it be that the 1960′s are back? Sienna Miller donned her retro hair and smoky eyes that really has not gone out of style. Makeup artist Kate Lee has incorporated some modern tips using Chanel products that can help you create the look at home.

You can start by using a navy shade instead of black on the eyes called Chanel Intense Eye Pencil in Marine . To accomplish the task she wet the tip in order to color the lids. The navy shade from the Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow palette in Bleu Celeste gives the added finish. And voila! You are movie star glamorous.

donot Think Twice Before You Buy

It is a waste of your time to buy toner. Toner is no longer needed now that cleansers no longer leave a filmy residue on the skin.  Another unnecessary product is the neck cream.  A more affordable treatment would be to use a moisturizer with sunscreen by day and a retinol cream each night. Got dry flaky lips? A simple lip balm will help provide a remedy to the situation instead of a lip exfoliator.  Also, if they are super flaky, try removing it by using a tissue and lightly rubbing it over your lips. Have you seen the foot mask? It is better to use the use a moisturizer to smooth out dry cracked skin than the mask. Finally, cellulite dissolving creams, foams, lotions or pills. A good sunscreen will prevent a loss of collagen which, UV rays can cause the skin to become more dimpled.

Bold Beauty Look

lips Bold Beauty Look

Red lipstick makes a very bold statement on the runways.  Now that spring is just around the corner, we can lighten our wardrobe add a splash of red to finish the look.  I know that I have spring fever because I cannot wait to wear the colors of spring! Bright and brilliant colors – red, orange, yellow, pink, pale blue and green that make my feel all girlie inside. Oh, my!

I can’t wait for the snow to melt so that we can come dout and play. I am also ready for the flowers to bloom, the birds to begin chirping again, the grass to grow green, and the laughter of kids playing outside in celebration of the season of new beginnings.

The best shades of red are recommended for the following skin tones:

Fair skin tones should use coral shades like YSL Rouge Volupte in No. 6 and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice.

Medium skin tones should use reddish shades with golden undertones like Rouge Dior Lipstick in Premiere or CoverGirl TruShine Lipcolour in Valentine Shine.

Dark skin tones can use rich colors like Lancomes L’Absolu Rouge in Smoky Rouge and L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Red Rhapsody.

Now that I have an idea of the color of my lipstick, I am ready to don my hair in a stylish updo, put on a strapped sundress, however, it is barely above the freezing point in the Midwest. Come on spring!

Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique even Clinique’s Even Better Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique Even Better Dark spot Corrector is creating a huge stir because it actually works! I have seen some blogs where women have tested the product and now rave about it. Yes, it comes highly recommended by women who have experienced either acne or dark spots they wanted to get rid of.  The skin tone corrector is more powerful than its original because it also minimizes and completely eradicates spots or blemishes in twelve weeks.

The consensus is that you have to use the skin corrector at least twice a day in order to reap the true benefits. What’s even better about Even Better Skin Corrector is that the tiny bottle you buy lasts up to six months. How is that for a bargain?

I will pick up a bottle this weekend to prove the blogs wrong. I have a ton freckles that I inherited from my father that I would like to banquish from my face forever. I am on a quest to see if this skin corrector really works, too.
